United Nations has declared 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry. This year the global significance of chemistry will be officially recognised.
Year 2011 has also been declared as International Year of Forests by United Nations. This is done to strengthen the sustainable management, conservation and development of all types of forests.
On December 18, 2009, the general assembly of United Nations declared the year 2011 as the International Year for people of African Descent with the aim to strengthen the international, national and regional cooperation for the benefit of the people of African descent and also to promote and recognise their economic, social political and cultural contributions from their heritage and culture.
The European Union (EU) has declared 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering with the objective to facilitate the environment of volunteering in EU, improve the quality of volunteering, reward and recognise the activities of volunteering and raise the awareness on importance of volunteering.
As per Chinese Zodiac, the year 2011 is the Year of Golden Rabit.
In the year 2011 , there are four unusual dates i.e. 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11 and 11/11/11.
If you take the last two digits of the year in which you were born and add it to the age you will be this year, the result will be either 11 or 111 for everybody in the whole world e.g. if you were born in the year 1971 and your age will be 40 this year, so the total of 71 plus 40 is 111.
